We come alive after an exhausting run. We’re flying high after a rigorous gym workout. What is it, then, about embracing discomfort—about ushering in irritation—that makes those moments spent beyond the comfort zone stand out from, say, an evening spent watching Netflix?
That is really interesting, i always felt that muscle pain after an exercise is kinda “good pain” i never considered the physiology of that sensation. Very good article.
I’m really glad you enjoyed it! That piece took a fair amount of research, as I wanted to offer a different perspective on pain and explore how it can actually be psychologically beneficial. I believe there are real long-term advantages to embracing discomfort, beyond building resilience. Even simple practices, like cold showers, swimming, or regular exercise, can make a real difference over time.
